Dear Fellow World Citizen,
Halaal is a very powerful and complex word.
The concept of halaal does not exist in English/Globish.
We have written an essay that introduces the concepts of Halaal and Haraam to the rest of the world. It is titled:
Introducing Halaal and Haraam into Globish
Based on Moral Philosophy of Abstract Halaal
معرفیِ حلال و حرام به بقیهیِ دنیا
http://www.persoarabic.org/PLPC/120039
In this essay we try to do justice to this very complex word. We are not linguists, sociologists, ethicists, philosophers or theologians. We are engineers. But, this description of the word halaal is the most comprehensive and complete description that we know of.
We did this for the purpose of analyzing and defining the halaal manner-of-existence of software and the halaal manner-of-existence of internet services. And towards that, based on the Halaal label, we introduce the broad Libre/Halaal label for manner-of-existence of software. This labeling addresses the difficulties that the FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) movement has faced with repsect to the need for the right label towards establishing productive relationship with society at large.
In a subsequent paper, titled:
Defining Halaal Manner-Of-Existence Of Software
And Defining Libre/Halaal Internet Services
http://www.persoarabic.org/PLPC/120041
we focus on the formal definition of the Libre/Halaal Software.
However, the description of the word halaal that we provide is not in any way specific to Software and Internet. And our intent is for Halaal to be used in Globish in the very same broad context that it is used in its native cultures.
We request that you review this essay and give us your feedback.
This paper is not technical in nature. The intended audience for this essay is all of humanity. It is our intention to subject it to wide distribution, but before doing so we are requesting an initial review by a select set of reviewers.
We can offer no tangible compensation for your review, but we hope you will find your participation in something like this reward enough.
The pdf format is best suited for cover to cover reading. We are interested in knowing the overall impressions that it created, and in particular:
- How does the paper come across? Does Globish need Halaal? Do you find the essay reasonable, credible and correct?
- Are the examples of uses of the word halaal that we have chosen clear enough?
- Based on this definition, do you think that you can use philosophical halaal and haraam in broader contexts?
- If you were already familiar with halaal and haraam in the context of language, culture and Islam; is what we have presented consistent with your take?
- Is the anti-American/anti-Western flavor too spicy to your taste? Or, do you agree that the context calls for this tone.
